Founded in 1956, the Graham Foundation for Advanced Studies in the Fine Arts makes project-based grants to individuals and organizations and produces public programs to foster the development and exchange of diverse and challenging ideas about architecture and its role in the arts, culture, and society.

Current Exhibition

The first major survey of the work of Chicago artist Barbara Kasten, this exhibition spans nearly five decades of the artist’s ongoing engagement with abstraction, light, and architectural form and explores her expansive photographic practice as it has developed through the lens of architecture, sculpture, painting, theater, and textile.

In conjunction with our upcoming exhibition, "Barbara Kasten: Stages" Graham grantee Alex Kitnick will explore the critical stakes of Kasten's photographic series from the 1980s that artfully staged important works of American architecture.

The Graham Foundation is proud to be a Presenting Partner of the inaugural Chicago Architecture Biennial. Titled "The State of the Art of Architecture" after a provocative 1977 conference held at the Graham Foundation, the biennial explores how groundbreaking advances in architecture are tackling the most pressing issues of today.
