The website for At Home in Chicago is designed to attract visitors to explore the historical, cultural, and architectural resources through the house museums of the Chicago area. It is an exciting invitation for new audiences to investigate the vast range of meanings that we attribute to the concept of "home." Beyond providing textual information, the site is a visually compelling presence that appeals to people who traditionally do not visit house museums. To this end, acclaimed Chicago artist Lilli Carré has created an identity that inspires entirely new audiences to visit and think about the broader themes of history and culture they can explore through house museums. Bringing together these sites in the same online space showcases Chicago’s outstanding cultural resources and highlights the unique places that give opportunities to share dialogues about the human experience as exemplified in our diverse family of house museums.

Big ideas take root in small places. That's the conviction behind At Home in Chicago (founded in 2011), a family of regional house museums dedicated to telling their stories through the homes of people who have made a mark on this city. Expressing a wide range of the area's historical moments and diverse architecture, the museums of At Home in Chicago are a lens through which “big ideas” can be explored and take root, enriching the Chicago region of today and tomorrow.
