PLAT creates a dynamic conversation surrounding selective topics emerging from the architectural discourse to stimulate exchange within global academic institutions and professional practices. PLAT distinguishes itself among student journals through its quality of design and its dedication to innovative thinking. Each PLAT issue is designed with its own identity while maintaining a high quality of written and visual work. PLAT emphasizes a mixture of emerging voices alongside more established practitioners in architecture spanning across disciplinary boundaries. The theme will build from the prospective topics discussed for PLAT 13, which is currently in production, and discuss the role of architecture alongside the complex social, political, and economic realities of the world today.

PLAT is an independent architecture journal edited by students at Rice University’s School of Architecture. Its purpose is to stimulate relationships between design, production, and theory. It operates in a call-and-response format by curating professional and academic work into an open and evolving dialogue that progresses
