VORKURS_Interstice is the decennial edition of the student-initiated publication of the University of Florida’s Graduate School of Architecture. VORKURS began in 2015 as an ode to the course, of the same name, that Josef Albers and László Moholy-Nagy developed for the Bauhaus between 1928–33. Issues feature the work of theorists and architects such as Juhani Pallasmaa and Tod Williams Billie Tsien Architects. Across a decade of VORKURS publications, rapid and inescapable changes within culture and practice have challenged the relationship between foundational and new architectural methodologies, creating an indeterminate place in time, practice, and pedagogy where questions are more common than answers. Derived from the Latin word interstitium, VORKURS_Interstice aims to pry at the in-between spaces that exist as silent agents of transition and development. It hopes to view these indiscernible, yet instrumental lapses as opportunities for reflection, reevaluation, and transformation between generations and within the general architectural discourse.
Melissa Donaldson is the coresearch editor of VORKUS. She was born in Kingston, Jamaica, temporarily lived near Nantong, China, where Mandarin became her first learned language, and grew up in South Florida. Bridging together communities in lasting and sustainable ways inspires her educational, personal, and professional aspirations. Before joining the university, she founded an Allergy Awareness club and won a Young Arts National Competition. She graduated cum laude in 2024 from UF with a bachelor’s of design with a minor in sustainability and the built environment. During her undergraduate years, she served as a mentor to international students. Donaldson is currently a master’s of architecture candidate at UF concentrating on sustainable architecture, and aids the Council of Architecture Students.
Kylie Eubanks is the coresearch editor at VORKURS. She graduated cum laude with a bachelor’s of design from the UF in 2020, minoring in anthropology. Prior to becoming a master’s of architecture candidate at UF, Eubanks worked at a residential architecture firm in her hometown of Jacksonville, Florida. Outside of her professional work, she pursued hobbies such as gardening, ceramic wheel throwing, glassblowing, and finger painting. Eubanks’ curiosity drives her exploration of the similarities and differences in the human experience across time and space, and how these dynamics shape architecture and culture. She was nominated recruitment and fundraising director for the professional fraternity Alpha Rho Chi and cofounded POST, a student–led zine celebrating the UF's architecture studio culture. Passionate about knowledge transfer, Eubanks enjoys sharing insights as both an undergraduate teaching assistant and a coleader for her firm’s schematic design seminars.
Ruth Hunter Iglehart is the merchandising editor of VORKURS. She is from the Philippines but has since moved to St. Petersburg, Florida. Iglehart is a summa cum laude graduate from the University of Florida with a bachelor’s of design and is pursuing a master’s of architecture degree at her alma mater. Her interests include the impressions and memory of the built environment, and how design can act as canvas for this phenomenon. Apart from architecture, she is involved in the arts—specializing in painting and textiles.
Hunter Oropeza is the cofinance editor of VORKURS. He grew up in Key West, Florida, and graduated summa cum laude from UF in 2024 with a bachelor’s of design and a minor in music–voice performance. Throughout his undergraduate studies, Oropeza served as an executive member of the Alpha Rho Chi professional fraternity and participated in numerous organizations within and outside the School of Architecture. Oropeza won the University of Florida School of Architecture Luminare Competition in 2023 and worked as a teaching assistant and critic for lower-division studio courses while also working at M. Stratton Architecture from 2021–25. Oropeza is a master’s of architecture candidate at UF, and his academic and personal interests explore material studies and the deconstruction of edges in large urban projects—investigating how these spaces can shape form, function, and vacancy within a broader urban context.
Harry Reamy is the marketing editor of VORKURS. Reamy is from South Florida and holds a bachelor’s degree in design of architecture from UF with high honors distinction. Reamy has experience in the field of architecture through internships and is a master’s of architecture candidate at UF. Todd holds a bachelor’s of design in architecture from UF. Throughout his undergraduate degree, Todd assisted in teaching a variety of design studios and participating in a variety of student clubs. Todd is a master’s of architecture candidate at UF while working as a graduate teaching assistant and as an intern at Double Tee Arts, a nonprofit organization committed towards the historic preservation of the architectural legacy of Gene Leedy.
